About Kanikapila

Kick back every Friday at Kanikapila, our weekly celebration of Hawaiian music and community in Kilauea. Hosted by rotating local artists and their ʻohana, our Kanikapila brings residents and visitors together in a shared celebration of local culture and tradition.

This weekly event blends traditional Hawaiian storytelling, live music, and the chance to learn hula, offering a relaxed and immersive cultural experience for all. Rooted in the spirit of spontaneity, Kanikapila—from “kani ka pila,” meaning “the instrument sounds”—reflects the heart of Hawaiʻi’s impromptu-style musical gatherings.

It’s laid-back, it’s local, and it’s uniquely Kauaʻi—a place where the music flows as freely as the Aloha.

Schedule & Pricing

Your evening begins at 5:30pm with a fun, backyard barbeque style buffet featuring as many organic and locally sourced Kauai ingredients as possible, including vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan options.

Feel the rhythm of the islands as we share classic Hawaiian tunes, contemporary favorites, and impromptu jams that capture the essence of aloha. You’re covered – rain or shine – under our beautiful open air Porter Pavilion and beneath a canopy of stars.

Whether you’re a local resident or a visitor from afar, our Kanikapila event offers a warm embrace and a true taste of Hawaiian hospitality led by Coppin Colburn and his Ohana.

*Ask about our generous Kama’aina rates (each guest requesting Kama’aina pricing must have a current and valid Hawaii ID – Driver’s License, State ID, or PMRF Identification accepted).
